honor or dishonesty ever attached to his name. On behalf of the Illinois delegation in congress I desire to pay this last tribute of respect to his memory. His life work is over ; full of years and of honor, with unfaltering step he approached the end. In the state which produced a Lincoln, a Douglas, a Logan, and an Alt- 56 ADLAI EWINQ STEVENSON geld, we consider him one of our greatest citizens. His soul has gone back beyond the stars to God, who gave it. Tomorrow his body will be buried by the friends of his long career. Great mind, generous soul, kind friend, adieu. May the earth press lightly upon the heart of Adlai E. Stevenson of Illinois. DEATH OF FORMER VICE-PRESIDENT Resolution of the U. S. Senate. Immediately after the death of Mr. Stevenson was announced in the Senate, Senator James Hamilton Lewis submitted the fol- lowing resolution, which is copied from the Journal of the Senate : "Resolved, That the Senate has heard with profound regret of the death of Hon. Adlai E. Stevenson, former Vice President of the United States and former Presiding Officer of the United States Senate. Resolved, That as a mark of respect to the memory of the dis- tinguished official, whose life has been filled with honorable and distinguished service to his Nation, the Senate do now adjourn.
